सोने की चिड़िया means a Golden Bird, or more specifically, Golden Sparrow. This was the symbol chosen for FTI's logo after market research. But where does this phrase come from?

Preliminary research

1) Google scholar

S Pradhan, The Relevance of Design Thinking in Retail: An Indian Perspective,  Design Management Review, 2012 ("the sone ki chidiya, —the bird of gold, as the country was once called—has caught the attention of the world yet again"

JD Agarwal, A Agarwal, Liberalization of Capital Flows, Banking System & Trade: Focus on Crisis Situations (2002) ("All these were flushed away from India. India from being a" Golden Bird"(sone ki chidiya), as it was known a few centuries ago, was left as a shattered and weak economy"

L Singh, Coming Out of Partition: Refugee Women of Bengal, Indian Historical Review, 2007) ("Centuries-old public perception that sone ki chidiya (the golden bird) was impoverished due to the British rule")

2) Google search on सोने की चिड़िया
60,000 results on google search.

Academic articles
Thanks to Aaryan for the following research:

Rakesh M. Bhatt, In other words: Language mixing, identity representations, and third space, Journal of Sociolinguistics 12/2, 2008: 177–200: "4. There are several references to India of the Middle Ages as sone ki chidiya (‘bird of gold, goldenbird’)."

Let me try to reflect on a general person’s psyche in India….I feel Sone ki chidiya evokes a vivid positive image of a prosperous bird flying free in the horizon…and in recent times flying/flight/a graph looking upwards have all been associated with ascendancy and prosperity in public image and hence a golden bird flying and a tagline to support can only evoke more positivity and prosperity image. Also, when one is looking at future, it would be easy to define and hence associate an end state for India as sone ki chidiya. People will be more moved by the general perception ….that the first image it evokes is one of an aspirational value of the endstate prosperity.
