India has suffered so badly for sixty years from its millions of socialists that one must pause to take a deep breath of sorrow when recalling the INFINITY OF TORTURES of misgovernance and stupidity inflicted upon Indians by Nehru's Congress and BJP.
These socialists, these millions of Obamas, have RIPPED APART India, destroyed its proud soul, making it perform at less than 1/20th of its potential.
They have mentally disabled and handicapped what was – not too long ago – the greatest nation on earth, by demanding that the government do everything for us, including driving buses and DIRECTLY educating our children (what can a government teach!!). And, of course, controlling and restricting every aspect of business that we can undertake.
Even as they let infrastructure rot, and law and order disappear down the gurgler. Exactly as has happened with Obama: America's infrastructure and law and order is in SHAMBLES, but Obama wants to government to do MORE AND MORE.
Why, because businesses are stupid. They don't build their own business.
But America, unlike India, has the good fortune of having Mitt Romney.
While (American) Republicans have by no means excelled in cutting down UNNECESSARY PARTS OF government, at least they recognise that big government is bad.
At least they cite the philosophy of Jefferson which can still inspire everyone in the world.
I wish the Americans quick relief from that mutt Obama, who is determined to sink not just USA but the entire world, assisted in his Keynesian socialist goals by the likes of Ben Bernanke.
Thanks to Anil Babbur for sending me a link to the video, below.
This mutt Obama's detestable ATTACK against free enterprise, against business, has been resoundly demolished by Mitt Romney.
May the Americans have the good sense to elect the man who will bring them prosperity and the world some hope of liberty – Mitt Romney.
In doing so they will not just save themselves, they will save the world.
And a few other takes on the DISASTER THAT IS OBAMA.

Hi Sanjeev,
No doubt Obama is scum, but Romney is not what India needs. India needs a Ron Paul (I got to know about Ron Paul from your blog itself). Here are some things I don’t like about Romney (and Obama because they have the same stand)
1) Universal healthcare
2) The patriot act
3) The NDAA
4) Their call for war on Iran
Romney is a flip flopper and can never be trusted to do what he says. So despite he speaking language we like, I am not sure he means it.
On a side note, I like your blogs very much. I have learnt a lot about liberal ideas and economics in the past few months mainly from your blog and another website dedicated to Ron Paul’s ideas (www.dailypaul.com). So thank you !!
Sanjeev,
I agree with you on most of the blog posts, but not on this one. I am following US presidential elections this time and let me tell you… Romney is a piece of crap and he is as bad as Obama on almost everything. 99% of their policies are same. Romney does not believe in what he says. Romney supported bank bailouts, he supports unnecessary wars ( a big factor in US debt), RoneyCare was blue print for Obama care. Romney supports Patriot Act as well as NDAA. Neither Romney nor Obama believe in Austrian economics or Liberty.
No one can save US from the coming financial collapse except Ron Paul. With Ron Paul almost out of the race, US is destined to fail miserably.

Shilpa, Ron Paul is a much greater votary of economic liberty and I’m ENTIRELY with him on that.
On the other hand, he is not classical liberal. He doesn’t come from the line of thinking that starts with the Mahabhararta (the social contract was first articulated in this Indian book) or Hobbes. The key difference is our different understanding of human nature. Ron has an excessive level of faith in others. Classical liberals are cautious and do not easily trust others.
The classical liberal approach leads to a more realistic position in political affairs, and requires engaging with REAL people.
Ron was rejected by Americans for good reason, and NO libertarian will EVER get elected – not for the next 200 years.
The challenge for young people is to understand that while Ron Paul is good, you need to understand REAL people, and REAL people often want more and bigger government. To ensure that you strike a balance, and push them towards self-reliance, is the challenge of the classical liberal.

I agree that there has been little, in the history of Republicans and Democrats, to suggest that they have truly different policies. Remember that bailouts started with George Bush, not with Obama.
My sense, though, is that Romney respects free enterprise, while Obama HATES it with all his might.
That’s enough to tip the balance in Romney’s favour.
Ron was NOT suitable for USA. I’ve said that many times. I’m glad the Americans rejected that simple nice man.

Oh, and FOX news would rather be called Faux News or Fake News. It is the most anti-Obama and pro-white supremacist news channel if there ever was one. (an example – they reported “Obama Bin Laden killed” when Osama was killed. Just saying the extent to which their gaffes can go). FOX News has spent months talking about Obama’s birth certificate. And they don’t say peep when Romney adamantly refuses to produce his tax returns documents.
If FOX News is where you are getting your news and views from then I implore you to please switch to some other source. Try watching Bill Mahr instead. Or even CNN. But not FOX News. They are completely biased.
We are way better off without a Romney in India. Romney is an idiot and a bully. He doesn’t know what he is talking about. He is full of discordant stands, lies and dishonesty. There is nothing wrong with being rich. But money acquired through deceit, tax evasion (offshore accounts) cannot be applauded. A liar cannot represent a country. He is completely out of touch with reality.

I can understand your desire to attack Romney. He is definitely not a Thomas Jefferson.
On the other hand, he is not Che Guevara either – to entirely sink the American economy, like Obama is doing.
So unfortunately, Americans have to pick the least worst option – the best options (Jefferson, Lincoln) aren’t being going to e reborn.

Following the Europe trip, Gov. Romney has been accused in some circles of bring too culturally inept to be an international statesman (notably by Prof. Jared Diamond in the New York Times) and defended in other circles as having simply offered a descriptive account of the impact of culture on a nation’s prosperity (like in this WSJ article). In this very blog, a scathing critique of Indians as a slave-species featured not so long ago and invited considerable blowback. How can a socio-cultural critique backed up by data about the material consequences of culture be offered without lapsing into blatant elitism and contempt for the wisdom of ordinary people? Are there any lessons learnt from exchanges in this blog and elsewhere that you would like to share?
Dear Arvind
It is impossible for me to track everything that’s going on in American politics, so I’ve not paid attention to the recent foreign visit of Romney. I’m not his keeper and intend to apply a critical eye on issues that matter. His article, though, on cultural issues was good: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/312830/culture-does-matter-mitt-romney
I like this: “it is a particular kind of culture that has made us the greatest economic power in the history of the earth. Many significant features come to mind: our work ethic, our appreciation for education, our willingness to take risks, our commitment to honor and oath, our family orientation, our devotion to a purpose greater than ourselves, our patriotism. But one feature of our culture that propels the American economy stands out above all others: freedom.”
Indeed, that is very true. Americans take liberty very seriously. And they work very hard.
India, on the other hand, has a different culture. Culture is part of the soft institutional structure of society, and it does have real impacts.
The lack of questioning in Indian culture is its hallmark. That has impacts in terms of poor innovation and analysis of causality.
I don’t particularly deal with culture since it is something that evolves over centuries, but I focus on government policy which also has cultural impacts, but more importantly, has direct incentive impacts.
I’m afraid I can’t address your questions since I have no “lessons” to share. Just speak your mind is my lesson. That’s the best way to respect others: that you consider them worthy of sharing your opinion (and reasons for the opinion).
Sanjeev, wanted to ask you this always. A little unrelated to the topic here but hope you would excuse me. How come in a supposedly developed, clean, much less corrupt system like that of US, lobbies like NRA(national rifles assoc.) are allowed to run amuck dictating politicians on what laws to pass and so on. So many gun shooting incidents. yet the politicians there, much like our politicians here, are afraid of these lobbies and do nothing. Funny how certain things stay the same in politics irrespective of whether you are a third world or developed country.
Corporate and other lobbies and crony capitalism rules.
How can we get rid of this lobby-driven legislature? does FTI have a vision for this?
Vijay
NRA is not just a lobby group. There are many lobbies. NRA derives its roots from American history in which gun ownership was assured by the US Constitution. There were many good reasons why this was enshrined as a right, and I’m sympathetic at least in part to these reasons. The idea is simple. It is the government that is can become biggest danger to citizens. The arms are needed against the government. Anyway, that’s the theory.
In India it is not lobby groups but sheer corruption that rules. Our problems are way greater than America’s.
s
Sanjeev, when Obama and Romney promise stricter gunlaws after shooting incidents like these in their campaigns and ultimately do nothing for fear of losing the elections due to NRA(and NRA have had significant influence in political outcomes before), it speaks of hypocrisy and doing NOT the right thing for holding onto the chair. That is also corruption of sme sort. It is like Manmohan turning a blind eye ro pretending not to know whats going on with his corrupt ministers while media sings praises of his personal integarity. Its a joke, this so called personal integrity.
And to what extent do you want liberty dictating your laws? Are you ok with citizens even arming themselves with assault rifles, automatic weapons, and who knowsmaybe even rocket launchers, grenades, etc. just because their constitution hints at “citizen militia”? I think a line has to be drawn somewhere.I believe their 2nd amendment has bene misinterpreted and misused by groups like NRA to further their needs
re: “to what extent do you want liberty dictating your laws?”
The answer is 100 per cent.
Re: the other issue, please don’t hype up a relatively small issue. There are at least some merits in the 2nd amendment. Imagine the Libyans, Syrians, even Russians under USSR (or even Chinese under communist dictators today). ALL mankind can benefit from being well armed against the state.
As a rule, the state is the worst murderer of its own people. All murders and homicides add up to a TINY fraction of killings by the state of its OWN people.
That is historically true.
It might not be true of USA, and to that extent they need to ensure that guns are made available ONLY for the specific purpose of defence against state tyranny. How that can be done is a difficult question to resolve.
Let’s not waste time with US policy, anyway. The total number of gun related homicides in USA was 12,632 in 2007. That is high, but nothing compared to the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS killed in India due to poverty, malnutrition, inadequate access to health, etc.
In India the socialist STATE (the government) is the biggest killer. Let’s worry about it.
romney might be free market man but he’s not very liberal about women rights, abortions etc. Women gonna hate him. What about that?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/oct/31/why-us-women-need-obama
Indeed, you are right. He is just a better of the two candidates for the economy. He is not an advocate of liberty in the social sphere.
