The West has been wracked by a serious disease over the past few decades, even as the liberty promised (e.g. to America in 1776) was slowly re-asserting itself.

The disease is known as Keynesianism, which (regardless of what Keynes actually said or meant – for that really doesn't matter in the end) has a SINGLE POINT solution to any "problem" – more and more government expenditure, more and more government bureaucracy.
