Thanks to Allwyn Mascarenhas for referring me this video. It is very well done, poignant, reminds us that we can either choose the life of an ant, always worried about one's food, shelter and safety, or the life of a human.
I do suggest that RTI is NOT going to solve India's problems. It is undoubtedly a crucial piece of the overall jigsaw puzzle of reforms, but the reform must start with the electoral system. Our system is currently DESIGNED to elevate psychopaths and criminals to the very top. We need a systemic reform movement. That is what FTI aims to undertake. FTI needs you. You must rise and take charge of India, or be content to live the life of an ant.
I have nothing but praise for RTI activists. May their tribe increase. But I'd hope some of these activists will join FTI, to undertake more sustained and successful reform.

they have show such cases before too – one was a govt. hospital diverting drugs which causes death of a patient as there were no meds when needed! there too a young doc raised his voice but the case was going on in court when the show ended.
and isn’t NREGA a form of negative income tax in disguise?? because ppl in tht scheme only do work like “digging holes and filling dem again!!”
NIT is a dramatically different concept, Allwyn. It is intended as a top up, and is a direct transfer to the poor, to ensure a social minimum. NREGA is not a universal remedy for poverty and doesn’t meet the criteria necessary for NIT. Superficial similarity is masked by a deep difference in conception and operation.
wouldn’t NIT also get tangled in such corrupt mess? Sure if we have a ideal situation where everyone in the parliament is deeply honest like say FTI members then there would be much less corruption but suppose our current UPA-2 decides to implement it then the situation will be the same na. The point I’m trying to make is no matter how much you reform the system, bring in IT systems, give bureaucrats and politicians better incentives etc. corruption is also a human problem and someone who is corrupt and determined to make money in such ways will do so.
Allwyn, NIT can work without corruption. Read BFN for a brief description how. I agree with the rest of your points, though. But NIT is not about corruption, it is about eliminating poverty.
i read BFN, what i’m saying is the govt officials are only going to carry out NIT like NREGA so they’ll try to make money there!

you say RTI is a crucial piece, I think its not. Atanu made a good point once that in a democracy info should always be present(like on the websites) and not be asked for. And if the info is not present then maybe the citizen should goto court being Anonymous.
Allwyn, BFN explains how NIT would be implemented. Very little government involvement.
RTI is a critical necessity. Atanu, who hasn’t worked in government, unfortunately doesn’t understand the impracticality (and huge cost) of publishing information. What information? When? How? The information inside any government is HUGE. Gigatons!
A local board (see BFN online notes) is a far cheaper and more effective way. But RTI will still be needed for specific requests.
