Here's an image (below) that I knocked up. It represents my entire message in a nutshell.

Who says India's culture is compatible with socialism? What is all this meaningless stuff about "Vedic" socialism? When did the Vedas ever advocate socialism?

  • Arthashastra – The science of wealth. Who wrote it? An Indian.
  • What are the four goals of a Hindu? Dharma, artha, kama, and moksha

Which socialist has ever advocated Shubh Labh?

Socialists HATE profit. But capitalists LOVE profit, which represents the HIGHEST way to serve society. Do read Shantanu Bhagwat's blog post today which includes a key message from Dipinder Sekhon, an IITian and senior FTI member. PROFIT IS CHARITY. Don't agree? Then read Dipinder.

Thus, the message of freedom and capitalism is DEEPLY INGRAINED in the Indian psyche.

We just need to remove the mud poured onto this message by Nehru and his godchildren.

    Excellent post, Sanjeev.

They will call you a bania or a marwari now, but where would India be without these entrepreneurial free spirits?  We need our bengali poets and tamil historians, but, in our current state of affairs, each of us really needs to awaken the marwari within us!

  4. Thanks, Supratim

I disagree, though, that Bengali poets advocated anything different. Rabindranath Tagore would have STRONGLY ENDORSED capitalism. Indeed he does (heaven of freedom).

I'm MORE ANTI-POVERTY than any of the 'great' socialists. I've been talking of eliminating deep poverty virtually instantly (not anything more – I know you imagine that I expect more than just that, but I don't).

There is NO socialist in India's (ancient) history.

    Sanjeev,
Yes, I agree with you on Rabindranath, a fierce nationalist and individualist –
but, I do think he does not represent the rest of the Bengali poets group, who had their collective heads firmly in the clouds! Sarat Chandra was more interested in writing about upper class mores and women who couldn't help but love wimps, amongst other famous Bengali poets. Bankim Chattopadhay distinguishes himself as a nationalist with his ardent Vande Mataram, but the rest of his work is again more about upper class bengali bhadraloks.

Finally, yes, Indians do tend to forget that Bengal was the nurturing and recruiting ground of the Indian Independence movement, post 1857, until Gandhi took control in the 1910's. So, not belitting Bengal here, at all.

    Cheers

  6. Sorry, where is the socialism (collectivism) you talk about? I'm not familiar with the works of many literary writers from Bengal, but they were merely describing the agricultural feudal system, not advocating (like Marx), socialism.

    Or am I wrong?

The Indian Nehruvian Socialists do not like profit, They only like Black Money and filthy lucre through Bribery and siphoning of public funds through leaking subsidies. Those who can generate more Black Money are honoured.
This daylight robbery is going on for the last six decades, WE the sovereign People of INDIA are watching it helplessly by keeping away from Politics and have allowed Politics as A noble Endeavour to become  DIRTY MAFIA POLITCS. Social Criminals are taking over all the organs of Government and endangering our Freedom.
Can any one tell which activity in India is corruption free. Hydraheaded Corruption is now parading up and down in Govt corridors, all public places, markets, religious, medical and educationla  institutions etc.
Let us not forget that owing to large scale corruption prevailing, a very powerful country USSR was split into a large number of inimical states.
Let us hope FTI and other simliar organisations will be able to reverse this extremely dangerous trend. India can do Ten Times Better. Join FTI in a very large number as Leaders and make once again Politics as the Noblest Endeavour..

Back to first principles, Sanjeev – I think you misunderstood me.

My point from the first post was that Shubh labh was a principle more likely and more easily understood by our bania and marwari communities than the Bengali poets, who were more interested in allegory and literary craft for its own sake and efforts (nothing wrong with that outlook on life, though)

    cheers
