In March 2011, the American Economic Review (AER) becomes 100 years old. On this occasion they have published a list of what they believe are the top 20 articles published by AER over the last 100 years (this PDF document). The best thing is that they are allowing the general public to actually download the original articles! That is a very special event, for these articles are normally available only for a subscription fee. This is great public service by AER, and I wish all the economists and editors of AER a very happy 100th anniversary.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank AER once again for letting me publish Hayek's 1945 article (also in the top 20, listed below) on the internet through their letter of 19 November 1998. To the best of my knowledge I was the first person in the world – through the India Policy Institute – to have published Hayek's article online in the world (see permission here).

Thanks for the great list Sanjeev! Most of the economic articles listed here have not been read by me. Can’t believe that AER has already become 101 years old on this year.
