Thanks for those who commented on my previous draft which I've now deleted. Deleted this (second) version today (12 February), upon completing the final article. The finished product is now available here.

Addendum: Found this in DOF in relation to Nozick. This is applicable equally here: "Excessive duplication arises as well, form the multitude of suppliers trying to provide the same services. All this leads to a terrible waste of scarce resources." – this supplements the problem (identified below) of transaction costs of negotiating hundreds of tiny contracts for everything one is interested in.
